apple attack

Mac Mini - the sub-$500 Mac. [sans monitor]
iPod Shuffle - iPod's flash version. [512MB for $99 and 1GB for $139]

Long-rumoured and eagerly awaited releases.

Update:
CEO Sim Wong Hoo of Creative, Singapore [that declared war on Apple late last year] has this to say on iPod Shuffle >

" We’re expecting a good fight but they’re coming out with something that’s five generations older. It’s our first generation MuVo One product feature, without display, just have a (shuffle feature). We had that — that’s a four-year-old product. So I think the whole industry will just laugh at it, because the flash people — it’s worse than the cheapest Chinese player. Even the cheap, cheap Chinese brand today has display and has FM. They don’t have this kind of thing, and they expect to come out with a fight; I think it’s a non-starter to begin with. "

I heard about it last evening in radio and rushed home and there it was on the apple website. As always great industrial design. I am planning a trip to the local Apple store for a better look.

More than the Shuffle, I am thrilled about MacMini. Now apple's talking.

What a timing...just when Firefox gobbled up frustrated IE users, apple times the release to capture Wintel market with that unique pricing.
Apple's legal suit over Think Secret for revealing the sub-$500 announcement on its website is seen as an excellent marketing ploy.

True. Shuffle just adds a device to an already solid market for flash music players. Just gives it the apple touch and itunes backing. The Mini though is a different beast. Its ridiculously small and fantastically nice looking. I am seriously considering replacing my dying desktop with the Mini. I already have a Wintel laptop and this will work well for variety.

Shuffle - How abt looking at it as a cute little flash drive that plays music?!
Helps.

Mac Mini rocks.

Want to experience them.

Bad news guys.
I was all drooling wanting to see the devices. But the iPod shuffle hasnt arrived at stores yet (expected anytime) and the Mini is getting its official store launch only on Jan 22 :(
I do think Shuffle will have a hard time convincing conscious users about its capability. But itll have an easy job selling itself to fashion conscious people who dont look for features alone but looks too. And yep, Creative Muvo has much more things it can do than the Shuffle.

mini looks awesome. Probably I will go for this and buy all the other accesories.
quick question, has anyone tried/or know if I can read tamil sites from Mac. with linux, I tried and couldn't get it. Nowadays I think all the software comes with a Mac compatibility, that shows its popularity, so good so far. Just wanted to confirm if everything is possible as is in a windows machine.

about the shuffle, I think the Apple brand will carry it through.

Paran, I have not tried reading Tamil texts on Mac, but after your query, a general search showed mac-compatibility. So go ahead get a Mini!!

Ranga, this CES, Creative has pulled another trick one from its bag. Photo displaying Creative Micro(that is, the 5&6GB versions). But isnt 1.5inch display a little too small?
