Exactly. All those beta stuff from big and small companies have shown us the possibilities. To add to your observation,

missing links:
Make money - scheme as innovative as Google's adsense alone could bring things out of the labs
Regulation - TiVos & clones thrown all around, combined with the power of torrents and personal network servers, almost everyone's hosting files. Bullying tactics dont work here. Curious though, to hear abt a solution in this regard.

Any more?

Since we talked Google here, a slight digression: an observer predicts next Google app [here].

I think at some point google is going to offer all possible services that the Web has to offer. Most for free(deriving money from ads) and some for money like VOD as Manoj says.

Reverting to an older argument, is this going to make google an unwanted behemoth, much like Microsoft of today, remains to be seen.

Manoj,
heard abt Google's trouble with the French, but didnt know about our very own Project Madurai. Glad to know of such efforts.

Ranga,
Again the same answer. Lack of communities such as Open Source led to the creation of earlier 'behemoths'. So I am guessing, Googleplex is busy with introspection. Which is enuf of a check.

If a pixel were to see and interpret things as I do, and should it express, with a dose of my thoughts and afterthoughts; the flavor of such a talk should be close to one that you find on this page. And yes, cricket being my favorite sport, dont be surprised to find one too many related terms. Pad up is one such!
