Monday, March 21, 2005 A long unsolved puzzle, originating from the works of Srinivasa Ramanujan, has been cracked at last. Ramanujan's "partitions" (the number 4, for example, contains five partitions: 4, 3+1, 2+2, 1+1+2, and 1+1+1+1) "have been used previously in understanding the various ways particles can arrange themselves, as well as in encrypting credit card information sent over the internet".
