Bits and Pieces .::. |
Wednesday, January 25, 2006 TiVo time-shifts Television while Slingbox place-shifts. For the uninitiated, "Slingbox gives you full control of your home TV and digital recorder even if you are thousands of miles away. You can change channels, use the program guide, and perform any action on the menus of your TV or recorder just as if you were sitting in front of your set. The home TV doesn't even have to be on at the time."This is late news, yes, but what has prompted me to drop a line about Slingbox here is the fact that the gadget (ranked among Time's Best Inventions of 2005) has been completely developed in Bangalore, India. News to me. "The product, which is built around a Texas Instruments signal processing chip and was developed in about 12 months, by the 20-strong Indian team, has become one of the biggest online sellers on the Amazon.com website."
