Its funny how on one hand, tech companies are stretching the limits of what we can do with phones and all and on the other, the phones we buy or the options we have seem to be almost the same.

Exactly. Coz we are in the US.
SKorea has been using DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), for instance, since last year.
